Intestinal Parasite

Parasite ova found on a fecal flotation.

This is an egg from Strongloides an intestinal parasite. When we perform fecal exams we are generally looking for the eggs not the worms. Samples are mixed with a zinc sulfate solution, filtered and centrifuged to allow the eggs to float in the solution. This concentrated the eggs making it easier to diagnose intestinal parasites in the sample.
